Magento 2.2

Magento 2.2.0 was released on September 26 and contains hundreds of enhancements, new features and bug fixes for the installation process, cart and checkout, catalog, products, frameworks and many other areas. The update enhances also the security of Magento in several ways.

Also Magento 2.2.1 was released on November 7 and Magento 2.2.2 has been announced for December 2017 which undoubtedly shows that the Magento 2 eco system is thriving like never before.

The Highlights of Magento 2.2

Performance

The new version brings enhanced indexing, as well as cart and cach operations. The indexer is now more efficient, so that the users don’t feel the active indexing service.

Varnish cache configuration now includes saint and grace mode to ensure Varnish is always presenting a cached page to a shop’s customers, which leads to a faster page load.

Security

Magento is now safer against Cross-Site-Scripting attacks as well as other code execution attacks, also the Hashing algorithm has been improved.

Fraud Protection

Magento developed with the service Signifyd an improved protection against fraud. The fraud protection helps the shop operators to protect themselves with an automatic recognition of fraud, so that the operators can obtain a 100% refund of the order value.

Developer Experience

The developer experience has been improved with Pipeline deployment, a new deployment process, enables build and deployment stages to minimize production system downtime for site updates and an easier management of configurations between environments.

New technology

Magento dropped the support for PHP 5.6 and Varnish 3, but includes the new version of PHP 7.1, Varnish 5 and MySQL 5.7.

A new thing are the bundled extensions, with Magento Social the first third-party extension is available as a bundle with Magento. The Magento Social extension establishes a connection between your store and Facebook account, and creates a page with products from your catalog.
