MageHero is the latest brain child of awesome Magento developer Kalen Jordon who is also the brain behind MageMail, the triggered email app for Magento. Anyone who has a GitHub account can register as a Magento developerfor MageHero. Once you created your profile in JSON format, you’re ready to be upvoted by other developers. You can only upvote other developers if you are logged in and have received the minimum number of upvotes required to be able to upvote someone else (see the site for what that number is). Kalen wrote a post on MageUnity explaining some of his thoughts around the upvoting system.
Kalen and Phil are talking about MageHero in episode #10 of MageTalk. Some developers were complaining that MageHero is a mere popularity contest, which it is to some degree. Kalen said the algorithm would get better over time with more developers listed. Phil suggested to add GitHub activity as a new «ranking» factor for its awesomeness algorithm which I think is a great idea. If you would like to contribute to the MageHero algorithm or the project in general, you can to fork it on GitHub.
