Happy New Year!

Könnte 2023 das Jahr der künstlichen Intelligenz werden? Im Openstream Blog wurde der Begriff erstmals 2007 verwendet, als Firefox 3 mit Hilfe von Artificial Intelligence der intelligenteste Browser der Welt werden wollte 🤔

Nächstes Jahr könnten wir nun aber tatsächlich einen technologischen Durchbruch bzw. den grossflächigen Einsatz von künstlicher Intelligenz in einer ganz anderer Dimension erleben. OpenAI hat innert 5 Tagen über eine Million neue Nutzerinnen und Nutzer verzeichnet. Aktuell noch im Beta Stadium, aber erinnert ihr euch noch daran als Google Beta war?

Die Entwicklung im Bereich der künstlichen Intelligenz ist weiter vorangeschritten und die Anwendungen haben sich von Buzzword-beladenen Projekten zu voll entwickelten Tools entwickelt, die sich auf eine Vielzahl von Branchen auswirken.

Während die Science-Fiction-ähnlichen Ängste vor einer Übernahme durch Roboter noch übertrieben sind, ist das Potenzial von AI (Artificial Intelligence) Tools, menschliche Ideen und Arbeitsabläufe im Alltag erheblich zu verbessern, greifbarer denn je. Das zeigen Produkte wie die Zusammenarbeit von Github und OpenAI bei der Entwicklung des AI Programmier Tools Copilot, der Sprachgenerator GPT-3 und die Bilderzeugungsplattform DALL-E von OpenAI.

Gängige SEO-Fehler

Das Thema SEO ist nach wie vor sehr wichtig, wenn es um das Ranking einer Webseite bei den Suchmaschinen geht. Zudem spielt die Suchmaschinenoptimierung auch eine grosse Rolle in Bezug auf die Benutzerfreundlichkeit einer Website. Um in beiden Bereichen zu glänzen, ist es daher wichtig, Fehler bei der SEO-Optimierung zu vermeiden. Nachfolgend wollen wir einige gängige Fehler etwas genauer unter die Lupe nehmen.

• Optimierung für mobile Geräte fehlt

Lokales SEO

Im Bereich Suchmaschinenoptimierung gibt es die Möglichkeit den Fokus ganz explizit auf das lokale SEO zu setzten. Lokales SEO bedeutet, dass die Webseite bestimmte Daten liefert, die dafür sorgen, dass Google und Co. einen lokalen Bezug herstellen können. Das ist vor allem für Ladenlokale bzw. lokale Shops, Arztpraxen, Büros oder Agenturen essenziell, die mit ihrem lokalen Standort gefunden werden möchten.

Ist eine Webseite also für die lokalen Suchergebnisse optimiert, wird der Laden, Store oder das Büro den Interessenten angezeigt, die sich in dessen Nähe befinden. SEO-technisch liegt der Fokus daher auf den Nutzern, die sich geographisch in der selben Gegend wie der Business-Standort befinden (Stickwort Keyword-Analyse oder Zielgruppe).

Traffic mit einfachem YouTube Video generieren

YouTube als Suchmaschine wird von vielen Shopbetreibern noch immer unterschätzt. Der Aufwand scheint den Benefit nicht aufzuwiegen. Wie wäre es, das mit einem einfachen Video zu testen?

Es gibt einige Apps, die man mit ein paar relevanten Bildern zum Thema befüllen, die Dauer der Bildfolge bestimmen und in verschiedenen Formaten herunterladen kann. Entweder im Bildmaterial einen auffälligen Hinweis zum Link in der Beschreibung präsentieren oder zusätzlich noch im Audio-Part erwähnen. Youtube wertet Titel, Beschreibung und Tags für das Ranking zu bestimmten Suchbegriffen/Phrasen. Google wertet alle Einträge für das Ranking zum Suchbbegriff/Phrase.

Kaufen deine Kundinnen und Kunden gerne in deinem Webshop ein? Dann kannst du das positive Feedback nutzen, um noch mehr potenzielle Käufer:innen auf deinen Webshop aufmerksam zu machen. Wenn du deinen Google Produkteinträgen und Anzeigen eine Verkäuferbewertung hinzufügst, kannst du mehr Klicks und qualifizierte Zugriffe erzielen. Deine Verkäuferbewertung basiert auf echten Rezensionen zum allgemeinen Eindruck, den Käufer:innen von deinem Unternehmen gewonnen haben. Eine gute Bewertung kann auch andere potenzielle Kund:innen davon überzeugen, bei dir einzukaufen.

Swiss Crypto Stamp 3.0

The first edition of the Swiss Crypto Stamp was released in November 2021, the second edition in August 2022. Last week Swiss Post sent a reminder about their plans for a third edition which uses ideas generated by artificial intelligence. It’s still a mystery what the next Swiss Crypto Stamp will look like, but let’s see what’s happening in the world of artificial intelligence to try and find out more.

During the 2022 Swiss Digital Days technologies of AI-based art creation and the associated minting of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) were explored. These two technologies were combined in a touchscreen art generator, which toured throughout Switzerland on a large-scale roadshow with 21 locations from the 5th of September 2022 through the 27th of October.

Digitale Kunst in Zürich erleben

Bis zum 24. Dezember konntest du im Circle am Flughafen Zürich Krypto-Kunst hautnah erleben. Die von elementum.art konzipierte Ausstellung zeigt Fotos und Videos aus verschiedenen virtuellen Welten. Zudem hast du die Möglichkeit, mehr über Virtual Reality Kunst zu lernen und mithilfe von interaktiven Kunstinstallationen deine persönlichen NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) zu kreieren.

Seit dem 27. Oktober 2022 war die neue Ausstellung «Liebe Maschine, male mir» zu sehen. Der Titel der Gruppenausstellung bezieht sich auf Martin Kippenberger, der in seiner Werkserie «Lieber Maler, male für mich» professionelle Plakatmaler:innen beauftragte, Bilder für ihn zu malen.

The Future of Crypto Nation Switzerland

Switzerland has built a reputation for nurturing a new industry based on cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Experts give their take on the pros and cons of the fledgling ‘Crypto Nation’.

More than 1,000 blockchain companies, supporting 6,000 jobs, have set anchor in Switzerland, encouraged by the welcoming political and legal infrastructure. But other countries are raising their game, determined to entice the world’s best technology innovators to their realms. How will Switzerland cling on to its lead as the competition heats up.

SWI swissinfo.ch invited guests from Switzerland, Dubai and the United States to gauge the strength of the blockchain industry and unpick the best strategies for countries to adopt.

Alexander Brunner is president of Home of Blockchain.swiss, a public-private partnership focused on promoting Switzerland as the go-to venue for the industry. Matthew Allen has written for SWI swissinfo.ch on cryptocurrencies and blockchains for several years.

Faisal Zaidi, co-founder of Crypto Oasis and Middle East lead for the Swiss Crypto Valley Association, provides the view from Dubai, which has launched an ambitious blockchain and metaverse drive. Joining the debate from the US is Sandra Ro, CEO of the Global Blockchain Business Council, which represents the views of the industry worldwide.

During the studio discussion, we also hear from several entrepreneurs who have chosen Switzerland as the venue to operate their revolutionary businesses.

Trust Square Regenerate

Last night, Trust Square co-founder Marc Degen and arte.community co-founder Ralf Glabischnig inaugurated a new bistro and digital art gallery at Paradeplatz in Zürich. As can be seen in the picture above, over 300 visitors including myself waited in line to access the beautiful new 600m2 open space that provides additional room for Trust Square’s ecosystem of technology innovators that Openstream became part of in September this year.

Is the Metaverse Really the Future?

End of October, Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee published a video that showcases Meta’s new Quest Pro VR (Virtual Reality) headset. I’ve had some interesting experiences myself with previous versions of the Meta Quest and other sate of the art headsets, but to be honest, it still feels far from how the Metaverse of the future is envisioned in Steven Spielberg’s 2018 science fiction movie Ready Player One. It’s not that immersive as of yet, because of poorer than real life resolution, bad audio quality and other factors.

According to Marques the new Meta Quest Pro VR headset is a technology leap that allows for completely new virtual and augmented reality experiences that might develop into some mind blowing, but also scary future scenarios.

Podcast App Pocket Casts jetzt Open Source

Die Podcast App «Pocket Casts» hat im Oktober 2022 angekündigt, dass seine mobilen Apps jetzt Open Source sind. Die App wurde 2010 gestartet und hat sich schnell zum Standard in der Podcast-Branche entwickelt, aufgrund ihrer innovativen Funktionen zum Hören, Suchen und Entdecken sowie ihres schlanken Designs und ihren Anpassungsmöglichkeiten. Das Unternehmen hat sich entschieden, seine Apps Open Source zu machen, um ein vielfältiges Ökosystem von Drittanbieter-Podcast-Clients zu fördern und damit den Platzhirschen Apple und Spotify Paroli zu bieten.

WordPress 6.1.1 Maintenance Release

This minor release from November 15, 2022 features 29 bug fixes in Core and 21 bug fixes for the block editor. WordPress 6.1.1 is a short-cycle maintenance release. You can review a summary of the key updates in this release by reading the RC1 announcement.

WooCommerce 7.0.1 Patch Release

WooCommerce 7.0.1 was released on November 1, 2022.

• With WordPress 6.1 just around the corner which introduces the new TT3 (Twenty Twenty-Three) theme, we’ve added compatibility changes to this release so that everything will look nice with that theme.
• Simplify and reduce size of payload supplied by the woocommerce_get_customer_details ajax endpoint which addresses a security concern relating to handling of user information that is exploitable by shop managers and above.

WooCommerce 7.2.1 Rollback and 7.2.2 Fix Release

WooCommerce 7.2.1 was released on December 20, 2022. On the 21st it was rolled back and necessitated a 7.2.2 fix release which also is available since the 21st.

• The WooCommerce 7.1.0 release updated the states for New Zealand to the CLDR standard. This introduced a bug as the database records did not get updated.
• WooCommerce 7.2.1 fixed the issue with the New Zealand states by creating a database migration helper to convert the NZ states to the new standard. Additionally, it included the state update and migration for Ukraine.
• The fix implemented in 7.2.1 inadvertently included a hard-coded table prefix for the migration. For sites with custom database prefixes (anything other than wp_), the update routine caused error messages to be logged which subsequently rescheduled the routine, filling the debug logs rapidly.
• After realizing the severity of the issue, we began the work to release 7.2.2 and rolled back the 7.2.1 release entirely.
• How can I tell if this affects me?
• You will be able to quickly see if you are experiencing an issue by checking your log files. The bug produces the following error message: WordPress database error Unknown column ‘wp_postmeta.post_id’ in ‘where clause’ for query...

OpenMage 19.4.19 and 20.0.17 Releases

These are maintanance releases with small bugfixes, code cleanup, documentation improvements and a better overall PHPStan coverage. The minimum required PHP version was also bumped to 7.3 with intl extension enabled. The source code also finally has a much better “copyright” section, to thank all the team members who are contributing to the OpenMage project.

Important: Before upgrading you please make sure the new minimum PHP requirement is met and the PHP intl extension is enabled.

Neues Orga Team + Recap November Meetup

Die Zürcher WordPress Community traf sich online auf Zoom, um sich über WordPress 6.1 und das neue Twenty Twenty-Three Theme auszutauschen.

Ende Oktober hat mich Silvan Hagen kontaktiert, ob ich Interesse hätte die Organisation des Zürcher WordPress Meetups zu übernehmen, da Pascal Birchler und er im 2022 nicht mehr die Zeit aufbringen konnten, um regelmässige WordPress Meetups zu organisieren. Da ich die Aufgabe nicht alleine übernehmen wollte, habe ich Martin Sauter kontaktiert, ein aktives Mitglied der Schweizer WordPress Community, welches ich vom WordCamp Zürich kenne. Er ist Inhaber und Head of Consulting bei der Zürcher WordPress Agentur Metoki und Partner im Zürcher Westhive Coworking. Mit WordPress beschäftigt er sich seit 2004.

Das nächste Zürcher WordPress Meetup findet wieder physisch statt, der Termin wird demnächst auf meetup.com bekannt gegeben.
