From Vinyl to NFTs

Sound.xyz is creating a platform for a more collaborative music movement, built on web3 technology and web3 values. Users support the artists they love directly and stake their claim on being there before everyone else.

Putting out a new track should be an event, not an afterthought. Sound gives artists the chance to debut new music as a set of NFTs. Each edition of the NFT is numbered uniquely, so listeners can showcase their early support. Since early editions are considered more valuable than later editions, backers are incentivized to discover new music early.

Each Sound NFT is more than just the song. Owning a song’s NFT grants the backer the ability to make a public comment on the song — let the world know what you think. Sell your NFT, and your comment disappears, getting replaced by the new owner. Show off the Sound NFTs you’ve collected and prove you were a fan from way back in the day.

In addition to owning the song and etching your name in its history, Sound NFTs are your access pass to the Sound community on Discord where artists and listeners interact with each other through weekly hangouts, collaborative projects, and more.

METAGIRL – My first-ever Music NFT drop on ETH minted on Feb 25th 2022 as a collection of 1500 digital hearts eternally beating on the ETH blockchain. It sold out in under a month and changed my career quite instantly. Since then, the collection has generated over 52 ETH on secondary volume and reached #1 on the Opensea Music Charts a handful of times. It also blessed us with a nomination at NFT NYC for «Best application of Music NFTs to the current Music Industry»

NFT music is a fascinating development in the music industry that has the potential to revolutionize the way artists are compensated for their work. By utilizing blockchain technology, NFTs enable musicians to sell their music directly to fans as unique digital assets that can appreciate in value over time.

However, as with any new technology, there are still some kinks to be worked out. The potential for fraudulent activity and the need for clearer guidelines around copyright and ownership. On Sound, you can release any song that you’re the sole rights holder on. Currently, they encourage artists to release new singles (ie, not previously released on other DSPs).

Despite these challenges, the rise of NFT music is an exciting prospect for both musicians and fans alike. As the technology evolves and becomes more widely adopted, it will be fascinating to see how it transforms the music industry and creates new opportunities for artists to find ways to earn income from their creative work.
