A new major WooCommerce update was released on March 10. It brings new features to the WooCommerce core and enhances the way merchants can manage their stores.

WooCommerce 4.0 brings improved order management workflow and consistency between the desktop and mobile experience to all the customers.

Before installing, make sure you have tested your site with WooCommerce 4.0 on a test environment. This update also changes template files and maybe requires active changes to your shop. To see the changed files and more information about the installation process, visit WooCommerce 4.0 is here!

New Features

WooCommerce Admin

WooCommerce Admin is now included in the WooCommerce core. This brings:

  1. New dashboard
  2. New and improved reports
  3. Improved notification experience
  4. New store management tools

WooCommerce admin provides much better reporting capabilities and allows for filtering, comparisons and overview how the store is doing in terms of sales, revenue, which products are the most popular, adds capabilities for improved customer management and analytics.

The data from the reports can be exported as CSV to enable smooth interoperation with other systems.

Action Scheduler 3.1

Action Scheduler is a background job runner that is already used in the WooCommerce core. WooCommerce 4.0 has a new, more performant version of Action Scheduler which utilizes custom tables to provide a great experience even on stores with large volumes of orders and posts in the database.

New Onboarding Experience

The new onboarding experience helps to start an online shop by your own easier than ever before.

Additional Updates

Besides the new features there are other enhancements in WooCommerce 4.0:

  • Enhancement to the Order edit screen
  • Latest fixes of WooCommerce Blocks package
  • Updates related to Brexit and VAT
  • Improvements to email handling
  • Optimizations for saving variations and Cash on delivery payment gateway
