WordPress 5.7 “Esperanza”

·

·

The first WordPress release of 2021 is named in honor of Esperanza Spalding, a modern musical prodigy.
In the latest version the editior helps you to work in a few places you couldn’t before without getting into code or hiring a pro. Layout changes are simple to make.

New features

Now the new editor is easier to use and allows more customizations.

  • Font-size controls are right where you need them in the List and Code blocks.
  • Several enhancements make reusable blocks more stable and easier to use and save automatically.
  • Drag blocks and block patterns from the inserter into your post makes it easier to customize the conten as you like.
  • Full-height alignment for blocks is now available, like the Cover block.
  • Now you can choose a vertical or a horizontal layout and set the width of a button to a preset percentage.
  • You can change the size of the Social Icons block.
  • This new streamlined color palette collapses all the colors down to seven core colors and a range of 56 shades. It can also be used for building themes, plugins, or any other components.

Also other features besides the editor have been improved.

  • Switching form HTTP to HTTPS is now a one-click move. WordPress will automatically update database URLs.
  • The new Robots API lets you include the filter directives in the robots meta tag and includes the max-image-preview. That means search engines can show bigger image previews, which can boost your traffic.
  • Now it’s simple to let iframes lazy-load.
  • Ongoing cleanup after update to jQuery 3.5.1. jQuery gets more focused and less intrusive, with fewer messages in the console.

Remember to create a backup before updating.
