WordPress 5.1.1 was released today, March 13. This update contains 10 fixes and enhancements, as well as a pair of security fixes. The fixed vulnerability allowed hackers to perform a Cross-Site-Scripting attack by sending a maliciously crafted comment. This vulnerability affects all versions below WordPress 5.1, therefore there are updates for WordPress 5.0.4, 4.9.10, 4.8.9, 4.7.13, and 4.6.14.
Highlights of this release include:
- Hosts can now offer a button for their users to update PHP.
- The recommended PHP version used by the “Update PHP” notice can now be filtered.
- Several minor bug fixes.
The locale German/Switzerland (de_CH) is maintained by Openstream and has also been updated for this WordPress release. WordPress is available in over 200 languages, translated by the WordPress community.
WordPress 5.1.1 was a short-cycle maintenance release. Version 5.1.2 is expected to follow a similar two week release cadence.
