Version 4.6 of WordPress, named “Pepper” in honor of jazz baritone saxophonist Park Frederick “Pepper” Adams III, was released already 2 weeks ago and is available for download or update in your WordPress dashboard. My favorite new features in 4.6 is content recovery. As you type, WordPress saves your content to the browser. Recovering saved content is even easier with WordPress 4.6, because even if you’re offline, it will save to the browser’s local storage.
This release was led by Dominik Schilling from Germany, backed up by Garth Mortensen as release deputy and 272 other contributors.
All new features and under the hood optimizations can be found in the official release notes.
If you do not already have auto-update configured on your WordPress site and update manually, don’t forget to backup your files and database before doing so.
